• From your Outlier dashboard:

  • Find the “Need help?” button on the bottom left corner of your dashboard once you have logged in.

  • Find the category that most closely matches the issue you’re having.

  • Submit a message with all the details of your issue, including the time and day the error occurred and task IDs. 

    • Screen recordings are particularly helpful, allowing the support team to replicate the issue quickly.

During onboarding, you will be added to a Squad of like-minded contributors, led by an experienced squad lead. The squad lead will help you onboard and learn about how to successfully contribute to a range of projects.
Each domain’s onboarding process looks a little different. Most require you to submit a resume and pass a screening exam to demonstrate your competence in the topic area. Some may require a virtual interview as well.

The purpose of our onboarding programs is to equip you with the skills and knowledge to succeed on projects. Training AI models is a very unique process and can take some time to get used to. We want to ensure that you know what to expect before projects and have an understanding of the type of work you may see on Outlier.

Of course! We want to give everyone the opportunity to build together the new generation of AI models. Everyone is more than welcome to apply.

To refer candidates within your domain of expertise who are good fits for your project, please contact your team lead.

Candidates should have deep expertise in the domains of focus that they are applying for.  Our job descriptions will have more specific details on what would be expected in each domain, but we encourage you to submit your application.

• Minimum qualifications are usually junior and seniors in undergraduate programs of the domain.

• Preferred qualifications are graduate students, masters, and PhD holders of the domain.

We also expect all candidates to have a strong understanding of written English and clear communication skills.

We evaluate your resume and identify if you meet the minimum qualifications for a domain and associated pay rate. These qualifications are listed in any given job description.

Some domains may offer rewards for completing onboarding programs, or higher rates for superior performance!

You will be paid out weekly via your preferred option between PayPal and AirTM.

Our projects have varying lengths, depending on the need of the AI models you’d be working on. After completing a project, our contributors will have the opportunity to work on additional projects.

Outlier is very flexible! We have some contributors working ~5-10 hrs/week and some who work 40 hrs/week as their schedule allows.

You will earn based on how many hours you contribute throughout the week, which is up to you as there is no minimum or maximum amount of hours that need to be worked.

Absolutely! Contributors are independent contractors who can choose how many hours they want to work a week.

Once you pass screening and onboarding, you will be added to a Squad of like-minded contributors, led by an experienced squad lead. The squad lead will help you onboard and learn about how to successfully contribute to a range of projects. Beyond being a source of useful information and learning, as a squad member, squads provide the opportunity to connect with contributors from your domain of expertise!

This job is 100% remote, you don’t need to go into an office.

Yes! Below is a sample of projects, spanning different types of projects and different areas of expertise. As you can see, projects vary greatly and the type of work you do may change over time!

• Write original and challenging prompts for an AI model to respond to, and help craft original responses that you would want an AI model to respond with.

• Create complex and thought-provoking Math & Reasoning prompts to help strengthen AI's weakness in math & reasoning.

• Teach LLMs to deliver highly efficient code following good programming practices

• Rank a series of responses that were produced by an AI model based on their accuracy and correctness.
  Edit responses written by an AI model to ensure their accuracy, factuality, and relevance.
  Provide details on your reasoning & logic behind different responses and evaluations.

The goal of Outlier’s projects is to help train AI models to be safer, more reliable, and more accurate.
You will help cutting-edge generative AI models do such things as write better code, better synthesize data science, understand the basics of math and chemistry, and write more creatively. Projects typically include discrete, highly variable problems that involve engaging with these models as they learn.

The projects you work on will look different depending on your expertise. The work may span various topic areas, while the format of the work may range from generating training data to advance the models to evaluating the performance of models.

At this time, we do not sponsor work visas for Outlier contributors.

Your ability to contract with Outlier is dependent on the type of visa you have. Your visa must specify you are allowed to work and even then, you may still need authorization. If you are unclear on your qualifications, please contact your immigration advisor. Outlier is unable to provide further guidance on your visa specifics.
Please note that we only accept US Driver’s Licenses, US State IDs, US Work Permits or US Permanent Residence Cards for identity verification. Identify verification is required for all contributors.

All Outlier contributors are independent contractors, not W2 employees.
Work authorization is a process run by the federal government, and we cannot advise on the process.

No! Many contributors spend 20-25 hours per week on the platform, but you are independent contractors and can choose how many hours they want to work a week.

No, you are a freelancer for Outlier and you can work when you want, where you want, for however long you would like. You will earn a set pay rate per hour, varying on the type of expert task you are contributing to. 

Contributors are freelancers, not employees, who can work when and where they want to within the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. As an independent contractor of Outlier and assume all liability for proper classification as an independent contractor or consultant based on applicable legal guidelines. Ability to freelance on Outlier varies outside of the above geographies. Please refer to the job post in question for more details about accepted geographies.

Yes! Outlier is happy to have many student contributors on our platform. As an independent contractor, you can work when and for however long you like.
Some projects have specific educational requirements. Please reference the job posting in question if you have any questions about your eligibility based on your major or graduation date.
