Testing Other Features: A Guide to Exploring Beyond the Basics

At Outlier, we're constantly evolving to better serve our global community of experts and contributors. As we move through 2026, we're excited to share some of the features and improvements we've been testing—many of which are already making their way into your daily experience on the platform.
Smarter queue management
One of the most significant updates we're testing involves how tasks appear in your queue. Our new intelligent matching system considers not just your expertise, but also your recent submission feedback and the types of deliverables where you've demonstrated strong quality. This means you're more likely to see opportunities that align with your strengths.
During periods of downtime, the system now provides clearer visibility into when new tasks might become available. Rather than repeatedly checking your dashboard, you'll receive notifications when projects matching your profile are prioritized. This respects your time and helps you plan your schedule more effectively.
Enhanced project specifications
We've redesigned how project specs are presented during project onboarding. The new format breaks complex guidelines into digestible modules, each focusing on a specific aspect of the deliverable. You can progress through these at your own pace, and return to reference materials whenever needed.
Each module now includes interactive examples that demonstrate both strong submissions and common pitfalls to avoid. This approach helps you become familiar with project guidelines more efficiently than traditional documentation alone.
Improved quality review process
Quality review has always been central to maintaining the high standards our customers expect. The feature we're most excited about is the new submission feedback system, which provides more specific, actionable insights when your work doesn't align with project specifications.
Instead of generic notes, you'll now receive detailed explanations that reference specific sections of the project specs. This makes it easier to understand exactly what needs adjustment and how to align future submissions with expectations. The feedback distinguishes between minor formatting issues and more substantial content concerns, so you can prioritize your attention appropriately.
For those eligible to work on review-level tasks, we're testing a peer insight feature that allows you to see anonymized examples of how other contributors approached similar deliverables. This collaborative approach—while maintaining individual accountability—helps everyone in the project community improve their work quality.
Streamlined payment tracking
Financial transparency matters, which is why we've enhanced the payment dashboard. You can now see a detailed breakdown of your earnings by project, including your current tasking rate for each opportunity you're matched with. The new interface clearly distinguishes between deliverable task rates and assessment rates, eliminating previous confusion.
When rewards or incentives are offered for exceptional quality or meeting specific project milestones, these now appear as separate line items with explanations of what you achieved. This makes it easier to understand how different aspects of your contributions translate to payment.
We've also improved integration with Airtm and other payment providers, reducing processing delays and providing real-time status updates. If there's any issue with a payment, you'll receive immediate notification with specific next steps, rather than discovering the problem days later.
Community connection features
The Outlier Community has always been a valuable resource for sharing insights and getting questions answered. We're testing new features that make it easier to connect with other contributors working on similar projects—without compromising the independent nature of your work.
Topic-based channels now automatically surface relevant discussions when you're becoming familiar with a new project's specifications. If others have already asked questions about a particular guideline, you'll find those conversations easily rather than posting duplicate questions.
We're also piloting optional webinars where project leads share updates about specification changes or address common questions. These sessions are recorded, so you can review them at your convenience rather than attending at a specific time. Participation is always optional, but many contributors have found them helpful for staying current with evolving project requirements.
Mobile experience improvements
While complex tasks still work best on desktop, we've significantly improved the mobile experience for certain types of deliverables. The new responsive design adapts to your screen size, making it practical to complete shorter tasks or review submission feedback while away from your computer.
Task time limits are now more visible on mobile, with gentle reminders as you approach the limit. This helps you manage your time effectively without the stress of unexpected timeouts.
What's next
These features represent just a portion of what we're developing. Our roadmap for the rest of 2026 includes enhanced screening processes for new projects, more granular controls over which opportunities you see in your queue, and additional tools for tracking your progress across multiple projects.
We're committed to building features that respect your independence as a contributor while making the platform more efficient and rewarding. As always, your feedback shapes our priorities. If you have suggestions or encounter issues with any new features, the Outlier Community and support channels are here to help.
The future of expert work is flexible, transparent, and collaborative. We're grateful you're part of this project as we continue building it together.
