Amit S. was looking for a way to improve his problem-solving skills while studying mathematics and computer science at Georgia Tech. Little did he know, his journey with Outlier would rekindle his passion for problem-solving and lead to a rewarding part-time job. Here's how he managed to sharpen his skills while working on cutting-edge AI projects.
Amit’s Journey: Improving Problem-Solving Skills with LLM Training
Last winter, he was determined to get involved with LLMs, specifically, training them for high school tasks related to subjects like programming and mathematics. He found Outlier and applied on a whim.
“Growing up, I spent a lot of time participating in math competitions,” he says. “It's been pretty cool to revisit that kind of problem-solving via Outlier. Out of all the things I’ve worked on, the math projects have been my favorite.”
Flexibility at Outlier: A Game-Changer for Managing Amit’s Schedule
Flexibility is a huge perk for Amit. His previous part-time work required a fixed schedule that was stressful to juggle along with his demanding schoolwork and class schedule.
“Outlier’s been a really big game-changer for managing my schedule,” he says. “Plus, the work is low-pressure and interesting. You don’t feel burned out at all.”
Collaboration and Community: How Outlier’s Peers Help Amit Overcome Challenges
If Amit does find himself stuck on a particularly challenging task, he can rely on his Outlier peers.
“It’s a really solid community of people who enjoy writing and tackling interesting math problems,” he says. “I get to work with a lot of very interesting people who are into the same topics I am.”
Amit finds his Outlier experience rewarding on both a personal and professional level, and has already sung its praises to friends who share his interest in math and AI: “For anyone looking for an opportunity to work on meaningful tasks advancing AI safety and intelligence, with the added benefit of a self-paced schedule, I would say that Outlier is worth a try.”
Outlier as a Platform for Enhancing Problem-Solving Skills
Through his work on Outlier, Amit has rekindled his love for problem-solving and has significantly enhanced his problem-solving skills by contributing to AI development. His journey is a prime example of how Outlier offers a flexible, supportive environment where experts can grow personally and professionally while advancing cutting-edge technologies.
