Here’s what we found out recently:
Numbers in North America Jump and Drop
In California yesterday, nearly 3,000 people tested positive for Coronavirus. The Golden State accounts for 15% of the newly confirmed cases in the US as the state moves into Phase 3 of reopening.
Based on Outlier’s automatic Root Cause Analysis feature, the cases are being driven from counties in Southern California, but a few San Francisco Bay Area counties too.
Mexico is still seeing an increase and hit over 3,400 cases confirmed in a day. The country is currently 5% higher than expected and accounts for 4% of the newly confirmed cases in the world.
Virginia is also seeing an increase in the number of newly confirmed cases. The state started opening up over a month ago and has seen an increase in the last 2 weeks. The Governor is now issuing face mask requirements.
Today’s spike is 19% higher than expected and accounts for 8% of the newly confirmed cases in the US. Neighboring counties, Prince William, Loudoun, and Manassas are driving the increase.
Just beside of Virginia, Maryland is seeing a decrease. The state is 19% below expected and only accounts for 3% of the confirmed cases in the US.
Under a two-hour drive East of the highly infected Virginia counties, Prince George and Baltimore counties are driving Maryland’s decline.
Good news for Illinois. The state is seeing a 41% drop in their expected case count. The state is still practicing shelter in place yet businesses are preparing to open up on Friday.
Cook County is seeing the biggest decrease and is 65% of the contribution to this new trend decrease.
North Dakota saw a 60% decrease from their expected trend. North Dakota is lifting their narrow restrictions.
Cass County is driving this decrease the most with 83% contribution.
Bangladesh is also seeing a decrease in the number of cases as well. The country has 1% of the confirmed cases in the world and saw a 20% decrease below expected.
