The Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at (JHU) is doing a great job keeping us informed by providing data on the outbreak to the world. We have been analyzing data more deeply with the Outlier automated business analysis platform to see what unexpected findings we could locate.
Here’s what we found today about yesterday’s John Hopkins University (JHU) data:
Unfortunately, Outlier saw an increase in newly confirmed cases overnight which is being driven by the United States. This makes the United States the new leader in the amount of newly confirmed cases.
The cases in the United States are being driven by New York state as shown with deeper Root Cause Analysis. It is currently unclear how many tests have been administered in New York or any other US state at this time.
Today the New York Governor ordered all non-essential workers to stay at home. “The measures, the state’s most drastic yet, come as confirmed coronavirus cases in New York topped 7,000, by far the most in the nation,” reported the New York Times.

We also noticed a positive news story about the rate of recovered cases in the Middle East. The total number of recovered cases in Iran has increased outside of an expected range. To date, Iran has had one of the worst outbreaks in the Middle East.
In Malaysia, new confirmed cases have slowed to a new, lower range. Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reminded the public to “heed the 14-day Movement Control Order period which ends on March 31 and stay at home to contain the spread of Covid-19,” according to the New Straits Times.
One of our core values at Outlier is to value people above all else, as we are parents, children and concerned citizens just like you. We have been taking actions to help our local community during the pandemic, but we realize that the Outlier platform can be used in novel ways to provide more insight into the impacts and spread of the virus.
